One of my favorite and most powerful quotes is a Zen proverb that helped change the trajectory of my life and business a long time ago. I often share this in my work:

“When a pupil is ready to learn, a teacher will appear.”

The teacher (or lesson) may be revealed in different ways: creative ideas, unexpected people, chance meetings, or specific opportunities. That’s why it’s important to be relaxed and to keep your mind open so that you will recognize them as teachers.

After I left a successful position in corporate America to live my dream and start my own business and personal development company in 2008, I struggled as we all entered the great recession.

At that time, the proverbial teacher and lesson were revealed to me in a book that was recommended to me.

“The size of your success is determined by the size of your belief. Think little goals and expect little achievements. Think big and win big success. Remember this, too! Big ideas and big plans are often easier—certainly no more difficult—than small ideas and small plans.”—from the book, The Magic of Thinking Big, by Dave Schwartz.

This realization was the key factor that helped me shift my focus, work through challenges, and now serve clients at the highest level that I can across the United States.

I can now see clients reach new peaks of growth while better managing the inevitable valleys of their entrepreneurial journeys from a position of purpose and strength.

Dave Schwartz’s quote is a universal law. Based on my studies, this law is supported by science.

Today, many marketplaces are challenging for business owners and independent professionals. The first step in working through these challenges is in remembering three words:

Believe in Yourself!

Next time you feel worried, overwhelmed, or challenged, remember to relax, and keep your mind open.
